FLIP BURGER FLIP CIK'N!!!

Flip Burger just launched their CIK'N items, which is basically their fried chicken items! I have been a fan of their burgers ever since they launched their first outlet in Senopati and it's nice to see the business grows to this giant with more and more outlets coming. I came to their launching event yesterday at Flip Burger Kelapa Gading and disclaimer: in no way this blog post is an ad, this will be a short blog post with brief review.

The FLIP CIK'N line consists of fried chickens, fried chicken necks, and fried chicken skin (this one has been around since the first day) with the emphasize on the fried chicken. When they were served to the table, they were so aromatic that at that very moment all I can think of was quickly took pictures, naked the rice and abuse everything, and I DID! HAHAHA the photos that you're looking at this post were captured in less than 5 minutes!

The fried chickens were beautifully cooked: they were fresh, crunchy, well marinated, fragrant and meaty, but I must say they're still not kicking KFC from my best fried chicken throne and my current favorite: McD Spicy, but still, I would be more than happy to have this again and again. I did not expect to love the chicken neck more than I think I would, initially I thought it's going to be all greasy and shit, well a bit greasy but very tasty and enjoyable!!!

...and no question about the fried chicken skin, might be one of the best in town: tasty, crunchy and not greasy!!!

Look at them fried chickens!!!
 Fried Chicken Skin!!!
They have this set package where for IDR 34.091 (before tax) you can get the set of one rice + two fried chickens + one drink (tea box) and 40 grams of fried chicken skin. A very good deal.

Overall, FLIP CIK'N is a smart move from Flip Burger and based on what I've tried, defo approved. The people behind this brand are smart and creative. After this and Holycow on their resume, I wonder what's coming next, anyway best of luck!

BUMI SAMPIREUN - VIMALA HILLS, CIAWI

There are a lot of things to do out of town if you fancy something with different vibe, or simply when you're tired of the town, well when it comes to me, I like to do things that revolve around food, so a little family getaway to a restaurant with different vibe (and view) could do much to me. A few weeks ago, I went with my mom and dad to Bumi Sampireun, a new restaurant owned by the same people who own Talaga Sampireun and located in Vimala Hills, Puncak.

I really wanted to give the best out of this post and took a lot of pictures, but the rain was unbearable on the time of my visit, it was super hard that we initially wanted to dine at one of their saung aka cottages, but it won't be the most comfortable, so bear with the pictures I took here.

The restaurant's surrounded by greens that the calm that you get from it is almost therapeutic. Damn I really wished it didn't rain tho.
Even when it rained, the restaurant still looked pretty gorgeous.
Each saung aka cottage can accomodate around 6 people (and up to 8 people).
Food wise, I personally think the options here in Bumi Sampireun is nothing too different compared to Talaga Sampireun: Indonesian food with emphasize on Sunda cuisine and seafood. The fresh seafood served here are all self-breed, they had their own fish breeding pond, as well as prawns, squids and many others. They wanted to keep the ingredients and the food as fresh as possible and that's why they're still applying the conventional processes starting from the breeding, cleaning to the cooking but still with a little sophisticated touch here and there. We're getting to that in just a second.

Price range for the food here is also around Talaga's pricing, starting from IDR 20k-IDR 200k, not the cheapest, but you're paying for the view as well.
Teh Poci - IDR 35k
Their Teh Poci has been a signature of Talaga Sampireun and in no way we're skipping this to prepare our palate before diving in to the food, one teapot can be shared for up to 4 cups.
Lalapan Pucuk Labu - IDR 29k
This was a fresh cold appetizer with a hint of sour and tangy infused to it, a good one to prepare your palate before the heavier feast. On top of it is this chilli and shallot dressing (almost dabu-dabu like).
Tumis Bunga Pepaya
If this can be slightly less bitter, I would be liking this one, but I really like how well they cooked this, the nice spot-on firmness and chewiness.
Bakwan Jagung
Pepes Jamur - IDR 59k
One of our favorites of the lunch! Slightly pricy for IDR 59k to be frank with you but this was delicious, well seasoned, spicy and best paired with rice.
Sayur Asem - IDR 12k
Udang Bakar Madu - IDR 129k
This was my favorite menu of the day, grilled prawns with honey sauce. I love how the honey was given generously all over the prawns but without overpowering the whole flavor of the fresh prawns. This has been a major best seller in Talaga Sampireun that I believe in no way they're not bringing this one here to Bumi Sampireun.
Gurame Terbang - IDR 109k
The good old deep fried Gurame fish which still is one of most favorite Sundanese menus! It's beautifully fried with this crunchy tail and coating, the fish was meaty and fresh, only the seasoning could be more vibrant to make this even more delicious.
Pindang Patin
NOW TO THE CHAMP! You know I always need to have soup to accompany my meal and since I was craving for something rich and spicy, I opted for this as recommended by the waiter, and boy, out of everything I had on the lunch, this one was my personal favorite! Just PERFECT! To do the justice, I had the Palembang origin and this was so close to that as far as I can recall. The fish was fresh and soft, the soup was rich and mild spicy, writing about this right now is making me craving for this at the very moment.
It was a short visit here but still pretty enjoyable despite the bad weather, it's always nice to squeeze in time among your busy life to take your parents and be with them for a while. Talk about quality time. For just around 1,5 hours on the road, you're somewhere calmer and greener, and I'll definitely go back, the food can be number two/three for me, it's more for the sake of escaping Jakarta for a period of time that I'm looking forward the most.

DEVON CAFE JAKARTA

The highly anticipated Devon Cafe from Sydney is NOW OPENING in Jakarta, I have been waiting for this to open for quite some time and it finally did!!! Went to have a quick lunch here earlier today, most likely to feed my curiosity on whether their Jakarta branch would perform as good as their Sydney one!

Devon Cafe Jakarta is located at Senayan City LG fl, next to the newly opened Starbucks.
Their Senayan City outlet is not the most spacious, but pretty homey to be honest with minimalist semi-industrial vibe and earthy tones. The whole cafe could accommodate around 30 people with extra outdoor seatings for guests who fancy (or smoking guests), and not to let you down, but if you're planning to find their famous Truffle Soft Serve with Fries then unfortunately they're currently not available as when I asked the server there, the ice cream machine has not yet been installed, maybe give it 3-4 weeks as this blog post is written.

INTERIOR TOUR
Most of the menus here are pretty similar to their Sydney origin, so expect to find their signature (and best selling) Breakfast with The Sakuma's (Miso grilled King Salmon), Yakuza Burger (Grilled Teriyaki chicken with Mozarella Katsu) for a pretty cheaper price as adjusted to Jakarta's standard spending, if Breakfast with The Sakuma's is around $26 in Sydney (the last time I ate was around the value), then it's IDR 180k here for the same portion and quality. Anyway I chose to skip the Breakfast with The Sakuma's as I always order that everytime I go to Devon Sydney and I wanted something different earlier today! They added some local inspired menus like Bakmie Truffle (IDR 85k), Nasi Goreng Gila (IDR 95k) and Char Kway Teow (IDR 120k) and I was tempted to try one.

They also have various Salad and Bowls, Pasta, Rice, Main Plates, Small Plates, Brunch menus to Kids Meals and Desserts with price ranging from IDR 55k-IDR 180k, pretty reasonable for recent pricing and not to mention foreign franchise.
Iced White with Bonsoy (IDR 46k), IDR 10k extra charge for Bonsoy substitute.
Instant plus point: the fact that they provide Bonsoy here! Doesn't get anymore Aussie for sure LOL. The White was pretty bold and as I was guessing around before actually asking directly to one of the peeps there, the coffee really had this Common Grounds feel to it, and yes CG actually supports the coffee here but with the OG Devon Sydney blend.
Surry Hills Iced Tea - IDR 35k
Berry iced tea with lemon, pretty refreshing for the day.
BRUNCH
Devon Benedict (IDR 135k with Smoked Trout)
My friend who went here earlier recommended me their Devon Benedict! Guests are given the options of Bacon (IDR 110k) or Smoked Trout (IDR 135k), I opted for the Smoked Trout! FYI for those who're (if you read whore you're duuuurtyyy?) wondering, Salmon and Trout do look similar, but they are different in flavor and texture, Trout is somehow milder for me compared to Salmon. Anyway, diggin the presentation of the Devon Benedict as Charcoal Bun is used for the base, followed by beautifully poached egg, sauteed spinach, squid ink Hollandaise, black Tobiko and Salmon caviar!
Everything was spot on here! The brioche charcoal bun was fluffy and moist, everything was seasoned nicely without overpowering one another, the Squid Ink Hollandaise was one of the highlight of this dish, and altogether what I love the most is bringing the intermezzo of having this in Australia, there's something about the presentation and flavor that brings "Australia" to me, and that's a good sign. Recommended.
Croissant St. Denis - IDR 140k
To be completely frank with you I ordered this because I saw "Ghetto Style Omelette" on the description menu and bitch yes. Initially thought the price tag on this one might be a bit hefty for IDR 140k considering what you're getting (and even though they use crab here), but really after finishing this, I feel like the IDR 140k was worth spending! The croissant was beautiful: flaky, moist, buttery, airy, and the Ghetto Omelette was really far from being Ghetto (lol!), it was LEGIT! The crab meat was generous, but I think it was really the Bisque Beurre Blanc, this classic seafood sauce was a beautiful pair to the crab and the other condiments like caviar, salmon caviar and more! The omelette was beautifully thick and creamy too. What an elevated classic "Pastry and Omelette" brunch menu!
Truffle Bakmie - IDR 85k
From their local's classic menu, tempted to try this one well simply because my two favorite ingredients are in one frame: noodle and truffle. Short to say, despite the uber tempting appearance, this didn't live up to my standard and need that work on mainly the seasoning.
...however, the soup, even though was salty but good, plus the generous truffle oil drizzle makes this so aromatic.
I had an enjoyable lunch to be honest with you! The food brought good intermezzo of Sydney memories and flavors to my mind, food was executed beautifully on presentation, concept and flavor! Really nothing to dislike and I would happily recommend this to you guys!
